The Consonant Collective will lead a class of poetry students through the process of creating their own vinyl records using a refurbished ~1947 Rek-O-Kut Challenger record maker. This machine, created for use by music studios and pressing plants, uses a sapphire embossing stylus to create the record's grooves, literally pushing the music into the disc. We will first talk about the science behind vinyl records, from audio recording to vinyl pressing, and then each student will record their poetry to a 7” disc.
